Originality and Plagiarism
ORIGINALITY AND PLAGIARISM
The editorial board of the journal "LEGAL HORIZONS" accepts for publication only original materials that have not been published before. The journal uses iThenticate software to control textual borrowing in submitted manuscripts. The editorial board is of the opinion that plagiarism in scientific publications is a violation of the system of norms of professional behavior in the relationship between authors, reviewers, editors, publishers and readers, which contradicts the provisions scientific activity.
Authors are solely responsible for the authenticity of the content of their articles. In order to avoid incorrect borrowings or use of third-party research results, we ask authors to adhere to the ethics of scientific citation.
Authors of articles should provide reliable results of their work and an objective discussion of the significance of the research. At the request of the editor, authors should provide all data related to the manuscript.
The Editorial Board analyzes all cases of recorded plagiarism and reserves the right to prevent the manuscript from being accepted for review. The scientific papers received by the editorial board are analyzed according to the following indicators:
- if the originality of the manuscript text is more than 80%, the material is allowed for publication;
- if the originality of the work is between 60 and 80%, the scientific work is returned to the authors for revision with a recommendation to revise the textual borrowings and resubmit the article in a revised document;
- if the originality is less than 60% - the manuscript is not accepted for review.
The percentage of plagiarism is calculated using software that checks documents for borrowings both in the local database and on the Internet. The resulting report is analyzed by the editorial board.
If the fact of textual borrowing was recorded after the publication, the editorial board conducts a thorough analysis. The editorial board will contact the author and inform him/her about this precedent. Pages that contain plagiarism will be marked in the PDF file; depending on the amount of plagiarism, the document may also be deleted from the journal's database.
PUBLICATION ETHICS REGARDING USE OF AI
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as ChatGPT or Large Language Models, in research publications is rapidly expanding. The editorial team of the journal "LEGAL HORIZONS" supports the COPE position on transparency in the use of AI technologies. Authors should not list AI technologies like LLMs, chatbots, or image generators as authors or co-authors. If AI is used to create, edit, or analyze materials, authors must clearly indicate this in the article. The journal uses GPTZero software for detection. The editorial team acknowledges that not all AI detection software is currently effective; therefore, manuscripts with AI content up to 10% are accepted for publication. AI tools used in research or manuscript preparation should be disclosed in the cover letter, "Acknowledgments," and "Methods" sections. Authors are responsible for accuracy, avoiding plagiarism, and preventing bias caused by AI. Editors may reject manuscripts for improper use of AI, and reviewers must refrain from AI-generated reviews to maintain confidentiality. Authors using AI tools during manuscript writing, image creation, or data analysis must be transparent, revealing how AI tools were used in the methods section of the article. Authors retain full responsibility for the content of their manuscripts, including sections created with AI tools, and are thus responsible for any ethical violations.
